Local SEO for roofers: get into the Map Pack

The three roofers in the map get most of the emergency calls. Getting in is not luck. It's your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your citations and pages that prove you work in that town.

01 / How Google picks the three

Relevance, prominence, distance

Google says it ranks local results on these three. Two of them you can work on. The third is why a roofer across town can outrank you for a search made on your street.

Relevance

Does your profile and site clearly say you do the job they searched for? Primary category, services list, service pages.

Fully in your control

Prominence

Reviews (count, rating, how recent), links, mentions across the web, how well your site ranks in the regular results.

Built over months

Distance

How far the searcher is from your business location. Service-area roofers still get judged from their verified address.

Mostly out of your control

02 / Google Business Profile

The profile checklist we work through

Plenty of roofing profiles are half done: a wrong category, no services, ten photos from 2019. Each line here is free to fix and moves the needle.

01 Primary category
"Roofing contractor". Add secondary categories only for work you actually do (gutter, siding, skylight).
02 Business name
Your real name as it appears on your truck and paperwork. Adding "Best Roofer Dallas" breaks Google's guidelines and is a common reason for suspensions.
03 Address
A service-area business can hide its address and list the towns it covers. A virtual office or a mailbox is not a valid address.
04 Services
Every job type with a short description: replacement, repair, leak repair, storm damage, metal, flat roofs, inspections.
05 Photos
Real jobs, real crews, real trucks. Before and after. Keep adding them through the year.
06 Reviews
Ask every customer after the final walkthrough, with a direct link. Answer every review, good or bad, within a few days.
07 Website link
Point it to the page for your main service area, with tracking tags so you can see calls and visits from the profile.

03 / Beyond the profile

Citations, service-area pages and links

Citations. Your business name, address and phone on Yelp, Angi, Houzz, BBB and the home-service directories. When they disagree (an old address, a former phone number, a duplicate listing from a previous owner), Google trusts all of them less. Cleanup is boring and it works.

Service-area pages. One page per town you really serve, written about that town: jobs you've done there, the permit office, the hail season, the housing stock. A page that only swaps the town name is the kind Google ignores, and it can drag the rest of the site down with it.

Links. Local links (suppliers, associations, sponsorships) plus the guest posts and Web 2.0 pages in your package, pointed at your main service and town pages. Every one is in your monthly report.

What exactly we fix and build depends on your package and what the inspection finds. You'll see it listed before you pay anything. For the wider plan, read how roofing SEO works as a whole.

FAQ

Local SEO and Map Pack questions

What is local SEO for roofers?

It is the work that gets a roofing company into the Map Pack and the local results when someone searches "roofer near me" or "roof repair" plus a town. The core pieces are your Google Business Profile, reviews, consistent citations, service pages for each job type and town you really serve, and links that show Google you are a real, active local business.

How do I get my roofing company into the Map Pack?

Pick the right primary category, fill out every field of your Google Business Profile, keep your name, address and phone identical across directories, and earn a steady flow of real reviews. Then back it with a website that has a strong page for your main services and towns. Distance from the searcher still matters, so you rank most easily closest to your verified location.

Can I rank in towns where I don't have an office?

In the regular organic results, yes, with a genuinely useful page for each town you serve: local projects, permits, weather, distance. In the Map Pack it is harder, because Google weighs distance from your verified address. Never set up fake addresses to cover more towns; Google removes those listings.

Is it OK to offer a discount for Google reviews?

No. Google's policies prohibit offering incentives for reviews and asking only happy customers to review you (review gating). Ask every customer, make it easy with a direct link, and reply to every review. That is slower than buying reviews but it doesn't risk your profile.

Which directories matter for roofers?

Start with the ones homeowners actually use and that rank in your town: Yelp, Angi, Houzz, BBB, Nextdoor, Facebook, Bing Places and Apple Business Connect, plus manufacturer contractor finders if you hold their certification. Consistency matters more than volume: one correct listing beats ten that disagree.

How long until I show up in the Map Pack?

It depends on your competition and starting point. A profile with few reviews in a busy metro can take many months. A complete profile in a smaller town with weak competitors can move within weeks. We show you where you stand in the free inspection.

Where do you rank in the map today?

We check your Google Business Profile, reviews and citations against the three roofers in your local pack and tell you what's missing. Free, written, by email.
